Job Description

Purpose:  To support the Residential Home Manager, staff and all the children and young people in the Home. 

Main Responsibilities and Duties: 

The role of the Deputy Homes Manager is to support the Registered Homes Manager in the day to day running of the Home and carrying out tasks as directed by the Registered Homes Manager, deputising for them during their absence.  In addition 

  • Work with the Registered Homes Manager and members of the team in effectively engaging with the wider system and professionals (social workers, parents/carers, teachers, health professionals etc) involved with all the children living in the home to ensure the best outcomes are achieved 
  • Provide a caring and homely environment and encourage children to make choices in what exists in their home environment 
  • Ensure the team maintains the safety and welfare of children both in the home and the community  
  • Promote adherence to all safeguarding legislation, policies and procedures and that all safeguarding risks are acted upon immediately and the relevant action taken to mitigate the risk 
  • Maintain good health records and support children & young people to maintain a healthy lifestyle & promote positive choices as well as accompany them to health appointments and assessments  
  • Helping the children and young people form and maintain appropriate positive relationships and gain self-control through encouragement, support and promotion of good behaviour, challenging unacceptable behaviour and rewarding success 
  • Facilitate contact with family in line with their views, wishes and feelings. 
  • Actively listen to children and where necessary guide towards counselling and/or therapy services 
  • Supervise and arrange activities to ensure appropriate mental, physical, social and spiritual development is maintained; 
  • Promote independence and self-determination, taking into account each child/young person’s individual needs 
  • Help children to access education by ensuring they attend school as required 
  • Promote diversity, inclusion and participation and include cultural differences to ensure each child receives a holistic approach to their development. 
  • Help promote high performance standards by all staff by working with the management team in providing regular supervision, appraisals and management to the entire team; 
  • Take full part in handover and team meetings, and provide encouragement and constructive feedback to children and young people.   
  • Assist Registered Homes Manager in ensuring the smooth running of the home by maintaining a robust shift rota system which helps keep the right staffing levels at all times 
  • Assist Registered Homes Manager in making sure the home is Ofsted ready at all times, and prepare to respond to all requirements and help to achieve and maintain an Ofsted rating of at least Good, with Outstanding being the goal within the expectations of J24 Resourcing. 
  • Ensure staff effectively maintain administrative systems for children’s records, referrals and assessments, including risk assessments, and apply them confidentially, ensuring standards and boundaries are adhered to 
  • Continuously improve own practice as well as ensuring that all staff are trained and developed in line with statutory legislation and timescales, ensuring that training undertaken is relevant, robust and effective and that the training program is dynamic, adaptive to the needs of current residents 
  • Ensure Health and Safety Standards are maintained at all times met and risk assessments are in place, ensuring that the necessary staff training is undertaken and recorded 
  • Ensure physical buildings, fixtures and fittings are maintained to a high standard and in good decorative order and is secure.

Requirements 

  • Level 3 in Children and Young People Workforce, or equivalent;; 
  • 3 years or more experience of working in a residential setting with young people with complex and challenging behaviour, emotional and behavioural difficulties; 
  • A good understanding of OFSTED requirements 
  • Experience in supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties; 
  • A good understanding of Ofsted regulations; 
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential home, preferably in a supervisory role. 
  • Current driving licence and reliable mode of transport
